I love Barry Hughart's writing I love Barry Hughart's writing, and was excited to get this second novel of Ox and Li Kao! Li Kao is an especially good character, clever, sarcastic, and compassionate, and I wish there were more than three of these novels!. This is the second in the series staring with "the Amazon Customer This is the second in the series staring with "the Bridge of Birds". I first purchased / read the "Bridge " in 1986. I was not aware of the other books in this serries until a few years ago.. "And now for something completely different" according to ealovitt. The blurb on the cover describes "The Story of the Stone" as "an oriental Holmes and Watson plunked down in an Indiana Jones movie."
