DESCRIPTION:

The poems weave through the intersections of life, from the ache of growing up different in the suburbs, to the adolescent feelings of displacement and alienness in one's own life, to a maturity haunted by shadows of the past. Published by Ugly Sapling Press.. Featuring twenty poems by Elizabeth Tsung, all girls will not feel pretty at some point is a gripping debut anthology that grapples with issues of identity, violence, femininity and coming of age. These poems, paired with evocative illustrations by Trevor Williams, tell stories of survival, growth, and acceptance; of motherhood and daughterhood, of prettiness and ugliness

Everything I wanted to read and more. Taylor P. At first glance, Tsung's collection is just good poetry: simple, seething, passionate, and entirely enjoyable. Williams’s illustrations help to both complement and complicate what’s going on on the physical page, and help to further center the aesthetic in the reader’s mind. Always harkening back to the title, Tsung interrogates gender, affect, being, time, and identity, and, upon rereading, I see Tsung's poems fitting masterfully into contemporary poetry. The images and topics she deploys bubble up from a long literary tradition, tracing the personal onto the philosophical and political, exploring questions . Amazon Customer said Amazing!. I believe this body of work is an invitation to the author's inner world and I look forward to the next adventure. Thank you for sharing your work with the world.. "all girls find their sisters at some point, and it's a beautiful feeling" according to Olivia. This is a beautiful modest chapbook that must not be underestimated. This collection of poems reflects more than the experience exhibited in its title, but also stories of cross-inter-generational culture conflicts, asian-american traditions (and the hardships that come with that), identity as a second generationer, the fluxuation and fluidities of love, and so much more. There is power and strength in the pure honesty of the multitude of inherent truths in Elizabeth's masterful storytelling, and is truly felt within these pages. I highly recommend reading this little book, getting your hands on it, and supporting it in any wa
